It Takes a Village (& Other Lessons Hyperlocal Bloggers Teach Us) | outside.in blog

A good interview of my friend & co-worker, John Hawbaker, about the creation that became Chattarati. I was one of the original members of the team, introduced John to Joe & Bill, and love how it became even better over time. I still remember when John sketched the logo on my whiteboard back in the Market Street Rogues days.

Rules of Engagement for Leaving Twitter

I’ve made a formal decision to end my 4 year-old Twitter when I reach 5,000 tweets.  Right now, I’m at 4,500 (or so) tweets. A part of the decision for the last 500 tweets, has been to set some personal “rules” for tweeting.

From 500 to 1

  • No more check-ins (Foursquare, GoWalla, etc)

From 200 to 1

  • No more passing of links

From 100 to 1

  • No more retweets

From 50 to 1

  • No more @ responses

From 10 to 1

  • ?
  • Not sure at this point.

I will keep my Twitter account for as long as possible. I still will read, but just feel I don’t have much to say in 140 characters.

I’m starting to keep more notes and such in a blog format. It works for me. So, why should I dilute any creativity I might feel, by chopping it down to a SMSable format?

"When a PDA becomes as useful as a cellular phone or a Gameboy, then the world will embrace the technology" - This comment, from 1994, sums up everything NOW in the cellular universe.

1962 glass could be Corning’s next bonanza seller

Interesting use of a glass that no one could find a use for in the past 50 years.

Rituals

We all have our little “rituals”; those little things we do before we do something. Some people have to set the microwave to an exact time, or something different like 3:33. Some people can’t leave their desks without leaving their mouse a certain way. I can’t play drums without having clean hands nor can I wear a watch, because of how I “fidget” with it.
